The Strathearn Flooring Story

The original Strathearn floor dates back to 2003 when, in the process of restoring our 180-year old cottage, we discovered it was almost impossible to find high quality natural flooring in Scotland. Eventually we tracked down authentic flagstones and aged oak floorboards in France. We transported our precious cargo back to Perthshire and fitted our very first floors. Then, thinking nothing of it, we advertised our spare wood and stone for sale. The response was incredible. And from that small beginning the idea for Strathearn began to take shape.

In the early days we were literally a cottage industry, doing everything from our beautifully floored home. Today we offer Scotland’s largest selection of natural stone, porcelain and oak products. Our distinctive floors are at home everywhere from historic castles to private houses and award-winning commercial developments. And when you visit Strathearn in the lovely heritage village of Forteviot, you’ll find our showrooms a far cry from our humble beginnings, but just as warm and welcoming. Over and above everything, Strathearn is still a family-run business, dedicated to craftsmanship, sourcing unique products and working together with clients to create remarkable floors.

Ethical Thinking

At Strathearn we’ve always worked with natural materials and that’s a responsibility we never take lightly. All our European oak is individually sourced from PEFC-Certified sawmills and only from countries with a long, proven commitment to reforestation and sustainability. The partners we choose are like-minded and we don’t collaborate unless we know they adhere to ethical and fair labour practices. And although our range of wood and stone is extensive, it’s never at a cost to the environment. Even the dedication we show in training young apprentices and passing down valuable skills and experience reflects our forward-thinking approach. We understand it’s a privilege to work the way we do and enjoying that in perpetuity means making sure every Strathearn floor is beautiful, long lasting and entirely ethical.
