Hen & Crask’s Design Director was approached by the owners of the West End Victorian property to work on the interior design of the property and advise throughout the project.  Rachel Richmond created the scheme. Our brief was to create our signature style –  a comfortable, yet stylish family home using a mix of styles and layering up fabrics and finishes with pops of colour.

We visited the property in it’s original state and immediately saw the potential of bringing to life all the fantastic period features. We wanted to respect the heritage of the property, yet give it a contemporary edge. We decided to give the fantastic extension a modern and cool twist using pops of shades of blue with Gubi chairs and fabulous accessories from Conran. We worked with Bulthaup’s kitchen design and complimented it with the Together walnut extending table, slouchy Att Pyntta sofa and an iconic Balzac chair. We sourced the large industrial tiles through Strathearn Stone & Timber.

One of the most important aspects of our design was lighting choices and we visited the Moooi showroom in London with the owners and chose the Herakleum and Meshmatic lights for hallways and the dining area. Once again, we made an iconic choice in the Saarinen dining table but used a rare twist in the Fusion Fire Brazilian granite top. Upholstered Gubi Beetle chairs mirrored the style in the kitchen but in a more formal setting.  All of these choices sat on the stunning mid-tone parquet floor from Strathearn. We wanted the colour to reflect the original floor of the property.

We carpeted the sitting room in Barefoot Ashtanga silk carpet and adorned it with velvet sofas and chairs from Heal’s and a made to measure footstool using Designer’s Guild fabric. We played with colour to mirror the colour ways in the dining area.

As you move through the property the colours and styles change discreetly from area to area. We wanted the games room to be traditional yet fun and the family tv room to be relaxed. We sourced funky Matthew Williamson wallpaper for the downstairs wc. The whole house is full of playful touches.

We brought Neville Johnson in to produce bespoke cabinetry in all areas. They also created fantastic walk in wardrobes and we specified colours and finishes. The kids rooms were fun and colourful, mostly furnished from Made.com, West Elm and Habitat.

It was a fantastic project and wonderful to be given free rein and work with other companies who are able to work to and compliment our aesthetic.  The final look is exactly what we hoped for!
