THE BRIEF
We were approached by our client in 2013 (project completed 2014) who were undertaking the build of a new countryside property and looking to source unique products that communicated quality and charm, and that also provided continuity and flow throughout their home. As our clients have a love of the outdoors and animals, the products chosen and floor design had to be practical too!
By supplying a number of key elements for their new build, this allowed the client the piece of mind that continuity would be assured i.e. external doors would match internal doors, which would in turn compliment the flooring and wall panelling, not to mention the bespoke furniture.
THE SOLUTION
We can’t take all the credit for the products chosen, as our client had a great eye for style and detail! Our St Sebastian antique terracotta flooring in herringbone style was a labour of love for our Stone Craftsmen who installed this throughout the kitchen, sunroom, halls, and main entrance. The numerous coats of antique waxes and sealants required to give the desired finish was no small feat, but will ensure that the clients floors are easily maintained.
Our Reclaimed Hardwood Engineered flooring was the product of choice for the snug and sitting room. Steeped in history and character our Salvaged Hardwood flooring in mixed width boards helps provide the illusion that a new property looks as though it was built hundreds of years ago. Not an easy product to work with, we will only sell our Reclaimed Hardwood flooring if we can fit it for you. And for practicality coir mat wells were designed into the floor at the main entrance ways into the property.
To carry similar tones in the timber flooring through to the bedrooms the customer selected our Dijon Charbon Engineered flooring, with it’s hand-scraped surface and edges offering a beautiful subtle aged floor.
Due to the expanse of the floor areas it was essential that our floor design incorporated movement joints to ensure that the final floor coverings could deal with the changes in floor temperature throughout the year. We also specified the correct ancillaries, such as a decoupling membrane, for use over the clients in-screed underfloor heating system.
Our client also wanted to introduce character into the bedrooms and used our Wall Panelling to achieve this – our Chambord Bordeaux product was used to create a feature headboard in the Master Bedroom. Dijon Charbon and Chambord Limousin wall panelling was used to create bespoke wardrobes in a number of the bedrooms, and also used for bath panelling and cupboards too.
The antique ledge and brace doors in our Chambord Limousin timber were a must have for the client due to their tactile, textured and aged allure. The colour of these doors drove the bespoke oil finish that was hand-applied in our workshop to the glazed internal oak doors and also for the custom produced external door-sets.
Continuity was also achieved by providing the client with bespoke vanity units in solid Chambord Limousin and Dijon Charbon materials. And to top these off, we supplied beautifully crafted marble and limestone stone basins.
