Site Survey

If our initial quotation for installation is acceptable, then the next stage is to carry out a site visit where floor design and the finer details of the fitting & finishing process can be discussed. This will include subfloor preparation, moisture readings, expansion gaps & breaks, board running directions or stone pattern layouts, custom thresholds etc.

Before your floor covering installation takes place, it is necessary to ensure that the floor is constructed to prevent moisture reaching the floor coverings from the ground, and that sufficient moisture in the floor construction has been eliminated. We are also able to offer a complete surveying and consultancy service to aid the understanding of how and why damp conditions occur.

In new build or extension situations where the subfloor consists of a concrete slab or underfloor heating screeds, it is essential that the excess water be allowed to evaporate, and the time for this to take place should be taken into account at the planning stage. Estimated drying times are necessarily only approximate, as drying times are influenced by ambient conditions, the concrete or screed used, thickness and underfloor heating efficiency.

We use state-of-the-art moisture meters and hygrometers to accurately measure the equilibrium relative humidity and water content of the sub-floor materials, and ensure that these are at an acceptable level before final floor coverings are installed.
For the installation of stone floors over underfloor heating systems, we will also advise if a decoupling membrane should be installed to help isolate any lateral movement in the subfloor from your final floor covering, thereby helping to prevent cracks from appearing in the tiles. You can read more about decoupling membrane here.
