Forteviot, New Build.

A fabulous showcase of our full range, including engineered oak flooring, natural limestone, slate, and porcelain too - all selected with both looks and practicality in mind.

The Brief

It’s not often that we are able to work on our doorstep but, when our neighbours Denny and Alicia embarked on a new build project in Forteviot directly adjacent to our showrooms, we were finally given the opportunity! In turn, Denny and Alicia couldn’t believe how lucky they were to have us next door – they could pop into the showroom and browse to their heart’s content.

The architect-led exterior design for the new home had to be sensitive to the historic surroundings of Forteviot, and the interior finishes deserved the same consideration. Denny and Alicia were combining some beautiful period pieces from their previous home with new contemporary fixtures, so they wanted floors that would work with both styles. The new floors also had to perform with underfloor heating and doggy traffic too!

The Solution

The ground floor area was mainly open plan, and clever design combined the best of the light and a layout that defined different ‘living’ areas with lots of interest. Our Dijon Blanc engineered oak flooring was the perfect choice here. This floor has a transparent white oil finish that allows the character of the wood to show through but keeps the background tone neutral so that the beautiful furnishings are the stand-out features. To tone in with the Dijon Blanc flooring, our Versailles tumbled limestone was selected for the new kitchen. Denny and Alicia wanted the floors to flow from one area to another, keeping the neutral backdrop but also switching to a more practical tiled option for the kitchen. The solution wasn’t difficult - our Versailles limestone with soft tones of beige and grey works beautifully with the Dijon Blanc, and the new Dartmouth Blue Aga in particular looks fabulous against the limestone too.

In the bedrooms, we used a slightly darker timber, our Dijon Gris, which has a more traditional look with warm tones for a cosy feel.

For the vestibule and utility/dog’s room, we installed our Rustic Multicolour slate. This is a tried and tested solution for areas that are subject to mucky boots and paws, and it looks great too.

Our remit for Denny and Alicia wasn’t restricted to the floors however, and we supplied tiles from our porcelain range for their stunning contemporary lounge fireplace, and for their bathrooms too. For the fireplace, the choice was our Tephra grey slate-effect tiles to work with our River Black slate hearth, creating a striking centrepiece in the open plan area. For the bathrooms, our Pierre Cream tiles on both floor and walls look clean and light, offering a calm retreat after a long walk with the dogs!

The Build team included Meldrum Construction and architects Muir, Walker and Pride. It is a delight to have such a fabulously finished new home on our doorstep. It feels as if it has been there forever already, which is surely a great testament to great design and finish!
