Client: Gillian McCollum, Design Director for Murray & Murray
Supply and installation of Matisse tumbled limestone flagstones, Matisse velvet limestone herringbone bricks and Chambord Aquitaine aged oak flooring.
Following on from our successful collaboration in Murray & Murray's Flagship Studio in Edinburgh in 2014, we were delighted to be asked to work with Murray & Murray once again, providing floors for their new showroom in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, as part of their expanding showroom network.
Our shared passion for exceptional craftsmanship and the versatility to offer tailored and integrated solutions has resulted in the creation of a very special showroom that is not only an aspirational and beautiful living space but also designed for real-world, modern living too.
Murray & Murray took the unconventional step to choose to showcase only one kitchen in a single open plan space, with surrounding dining, lounge and home office. This meant that we had to consider the choice of flooring carefully, not only taking into account colour, style and texture but also the challenge of flowing one type of flooring through to another, creating a foundation for Gillian’s design team to build from and to complement the different cabinetry materials and interior styling.
In the end, the choice was actually quite simple…our Matisse limestone, with its soft grey tones, available in a large flag format but only 15mm thick, was the perfect fit for the kitchen and dining areas. The tumbled edges soften hard modern lines and there is warmth in the grey tones, making it a floor to fall in love with. Sealing the limestone ensures that it is protected from spills – so not only gorgeous but hardwearing and practical too.
For the living area, we chose our Chambord Aquitaine oak flooring, and as you pass from one show space to another the floor gently flows from the warm grey of the Matisse limestone to the softly bleached grey oak. The living space is a peaceful contemplative area - you will just want to sit back and kick off your shoes and be soothed by the tactile brushed surface of a floor that is simply great quality and so good-looking.
As in every home, there is a utility area and loo too and here we wanted to showcase once again Strathearn’s expertise at working with herringbone floors. Our Matisse limestone is available as a brick block and using this format in the Banchory showroom provided the familiar, traditional look but in an unconventional material. Visit Ranges - Parquet Flooring to see more examples of our parquet or block style floors. Or better still come and see us at our Forteviot showroom, or visit Murray & Murray’s Edinburgh showroom to view our engineered oak parquet floor, finished with a bespoke grey oil finish and installed by our in-house expert team.
We wish Murray & Murray much, well-deserved success with their Banchory showroom and look forward to working alongside them on many more exciting projects in North East Scotland.
